One word searches work best e.g. honda, baileys, lynx:
Rating: Player: You are viewer number 35431 Description: Orange shows how the blackout of electricity affected New York in 14 August 2003, and explains how a man had only noticed the diversity of the city when his mobile was off and he walked home. Music: Search for Orange New York Blackout advert music
that is the most amazing ad ever. I love the msuic. Im trying to work it out on guitar as there are no tabs of it anywhere on the net. If there are can someone link me?
OMG i have been searching for the name of this song for ages and the advert rarely came on telly. I absoultely love it it's great. Orange always have really good music for their adverts! keep it up
i was sitting in Odean this afternoon with my girlfriend, the moment this comercial came on i had to remeber the lyrics so i can google them and find out the name of the song..
This song came on in the cinema when i went and watched "The holiday" it was so amazing i love this song... It really does hit your heart when you listen to it.. :p
The first time I heard this advert I was watching Step Up in Cineworld and I wasn't so keen on it but the second time i saw it in the cinema it was so dark peaceful and relaxing at the time then that came on and i thought it was a lovely song and advert.
Really do love it!!
I have now gone with Orange for a contract now lol
The music's ace, but I'm trying to find out who the voiceover is by - it's the same voice as the Brazilian Street Sweeper advert, and I'm half convinced it's Dougray Scott. Can anyone confirm/deny?
Hate the song, hate the smug voiceover and the blackout looks pretty **** scary, what with big dogs on cars and half-naked fellas with clubs. And the message is twee and simplistic. I aim to avoid Orange for life.
I'll second that Mart. That voice (like skinned cats on a blackboard) makes me want to tear my ears off. The smugness is intolerable. I would have preferred it if they showed all the rapes, muggings and lootings which must have surely been occuring while everyone else was skipping and eating ice-cream - to the sound of someopne ripping that "beguiling" woman-child's voicebox out
Yeah, I agree with the above, though I wouldn't say I hate it so much. I do hate Dougray Scott's voiceover work, though, his dumb Scotch patter is frankly appalling, and the sooner adland learns that a soft Scottish brogue twittering on in a patronising manner is not all they have to do to sell us just any old tat the better. I thought these guys got paid lots of money to come up with original ideas, not just churn out the same old dross as everyone else out there. Shame on you.
That has to be one of the worst ads I have ever seen. "You need to switch off"? Yeah, but some evil sod kept enough batteries ready to play that creepy woman wailing, didn't they? Gragh.
Has no one realised what a stupid advert this is!!! To begin if it is august it would have to be pretty late for it to be so **** dark so why the hell is every one walking around like its the middle of the day?? and whats with the one hairdresser doing 3 womens hair its ment to be the middle of night!! and eating icecream waht the ****?!? and in a blackout situation wouldnt at least a restraunt have back up power!! and the cars so randomly parked in the middle of the road would at least have there lights on!! this adverts angers me so much i could right an essay on it. i am a big fan of orange and enjoy their phone service very much but this advert makes me want to kill them!
Lady you've gone mental. Why has no one mentioned the man painted green doing back flips I think thats the biggest problem with the advert. And wots with thoes random pictures of hitler come on orange sort it out.
I work in a cinema and this song can be heard from every 1 of the 16 screens so instead of getting annoyed i started liking it for some reason... hence the reason i'm here to find out what its called
this advert captures many because it's different! because it does not say it is voted one of the best products of the year (as ALL of them do!) yes its simple but its its simplisity that stops you and makes you pay attention. personally i think it its amazing. i would b proud if i had made that. i love how its in darkness and how it captures the small things in life we take for granted because to us its just a piece of everyday life.
great add orange! beats your stupid star wars and lord of the ring ones! well donexxx
The advert isn't that bad, Yeah its lost its touch now as its been onb for so long and i go to the cinema 3 or more times a month but i wouldn't say its "evil" or whatever everyone on here is saying.
It's only an advert not something that people should take as seriously dont let it affect you and "make you wanna pull your eyes out" because it is ONLY AN ADVERT!
The blackout was real - it was caused by a power short in Canada. Here's the wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003_North_America_blackout
Jemz:
The blackout lasted into the night.
It was hot so people would not want to be inside with no air-con and would probably enjoy ice cream that would be wasted otherwise.
The cars would could have been abandonned due to no traffic lights, etc. and I personally don't leave my lights on when I leave my car...
Personally i think this is a great ad. The simplistic music goes really well with the pictures, which gives an even bigger impact.
Whether you like the ad or not, a good ad is one that gets people talking. If you have spent time looking it up/posting a comment, then it's succeeded.
I think this is the most depressing ad in the history of cinema and advertising...it makes wanna cry and try to avoid it, although very difficult since it's the last thing that plays before the movie starts.
I enjoyed the other orange adverts but I hate this one!
i love this ad and i was actually there in the blackout and its pretty realistic, the traffic was chaos and there were people everywhere and like jb said it was SO hot that outside was the best option. the blackout lasted for over 24 hours in some places so even the backup generators failed. the ad does romanticise it a bit there was no cabs no subway and buses were packed so not much fun but its true that it made you talk to people you never would before and i love the music.
As an advert, it is passable, it's nice to see Orange - a phone provider - trying to encourage people to remember/have the decency to turn their phones off in the cinema. But the woman can't sing! It's wailing at best, you can only "like" it in the same way you "like" seeing accidents happen because they're interesting...
What utter twaddle. You can like it the same way you can like many other things that may not appeal to many people. I happen to find Joanna Newsom's voice and music captivating, as do many others.
on the subject of orange adverts in cinemas... what's the jazz tune they always play before the main feature? the only lyric i can remember is something like "boogaloo baby, i've got a date"...
I am a Scot, but I can't understand why Scottish voices are considered mandatory for most adverts, especially contrived ones like this (the voice that is, not the ad which I quite like). Why the ad makers all use the same voices beats me as well...can't they be more original? The best illustration of this is the shameless rolling out of that annoying woman's voice from the M&S ads - it's on everything now - clean up your act!! Tell her to stop sounding whispery and elven - she obviously thinks it's seductive but I wish she'd just for a minute feel my annoyance at her - and give it up
What is the song and artist and any idea where it can be obtained?
the artist: joanna newsom
Song: this side of the blue
find it: limewire, napster, kazaar etc...
I still have that song in my head from the very first moment I heard it in that commercial. It's really good!
that is the most amazing ad ever. I love the msuic. Im trying to work it out on guitar as there are no tabs of it anywhere on the net. If there are can someone link me?
i think this advert is just perfect.
love the advert. adore the song. am now the proud owner of her album and am boring my friends to death talking about it.
OMG i have been searching for the name of this song for ages and the advert rarely came on telly. I absoultely love it it's great. Orange always have really good music for their adverts! keep it up

A note on the actual advert... beautiful!
This song came on in the cinema when i went and watched "The holiday" it was so amazing i love this song... It really does hit your heart when you listen to it.. :p

Just to add it says "Enjoy The Movie" at the end of that advert in cinemas but on that one on here it just cuts off.
The music's ace, but I'm trying to find out who the voiceover is by - it's the same voice as the Brazilian Street Sweeper advert, and I'm half convinced it's Dougray Scott. Can anyone confirm/deny?
heya bob, yeye it is Dougray Scott that is his voice in the new york blackout advert...
Hate the song, hate the smug voiceover and the blackout looks pretty **** scary, what with big dogs on cars and half-naked fellas with clubs. And the message is twee and simplistic. I aim to avoid Orange for life.

I'd rather **** lemons than see this ad ever again. Evil, evil rubbish.
That voice *is* awful!
That has to be one of the worst ads I have ever seen. "You need to switch off"? Yeah, but some evil sod kept enough batteries ready to play that creepy woman wailing, didn't they? Gragh.
Love the song please can someone tell me who it's by and how to get hold of it.
One of ther best and most moving adverts I've seen.
Yea heya, Allan the song artist is : Jonanna Newsome
: The Side Of The Blue
Love this song, so different than usual music. The voice irked me in the beginning, but it just adds to the flavor of the piece.

I am going to the cinema tonight and god help me if they play that advert it will ruin my whole cinema experience!
I work in a cinema and this song can be heard from every 1 of the 16 screens so instead of getting annoyed i started liking it for some reason... hence the reason i'm here to find out what its called

Can I ask what could possibly be a very silly question is this fiction or was there really a black out in New York?

well i think its just lovely so there!
